Pain

A shoulder condition, specialist prescriptions, and a long wait for treatment.

A shoulder injury is not an abstraction for a person who walks with a white cane. The cane arm carries balance, safety and independence. Pain in that shoulder changes how a blind person crosses a street.

This topic follows the ordinary path of a patient: examinations, specialist opinions, prescriptions issued, referrals made — and then the waiting, measured not in days but in seasons.

The educational value is in the gap between what was prescribed and what was delivered, and in how that gap is documented by a patient who cannot read a printed page without assistance.

Detailed documents for this topic are held in the restricted sections.
